Today my life is a tragedy...

This is Prissy

She cut her hair today

all by herself.

My poor sweet Prissy

There was no other way to salvage her hair, other than to start over.

Little Man being supportive of his sister.

Now both my children are bald

Yeah!

Prissy in pink

My dastardly duo

My very bald dastardly duo!

Yeah today is just not going well...

Update: The reason she went into the bathroom and cut her hair, was she thought it would grow back PINK!
Luckily hair in our family grows back very quick, unluckily for my girl we moved a few months after this. So she started in a new school and a new neighborhood with 2 inches of hair on her bald bald head! Needless to say its been almost 4 years and she has never tried to cut her hair by herself again.

An apology

I am not a fan of using poisons, insecticides or any of the fluffy extra's that some use in gardening.
To me seeds, sun and water work their own magic.
This summer I started weeding my front strip,
if you follow my blog at all you have seen the pictures.

I have lost the battle though.
I went on vacation and during that vacation it rained almost the whole week.
The next week it also rained...
The week after that intermittent rain coupled with sick family members
mean that the strip that I worked a full week weeding
getting sun burns and sore's all over my body
was for NOTHING!

I am discouraged, dejected and yes I am also done.
Tonight I bought weed killer
and yes I used it!

So I am writing feeling slightly sorry for myself
and my dirt.
Tomorrow I will see if it worked.
If it did I will pull the dead out.
Add in the new soil I have for the front
and then add my seeds.

Hopefully they will grow fast enough that I will not need to weed or kill again.

Swamp cooler fixed and cleaned

With the temperature growing higher each day we set to work last week fixing our broken swamp cooler.
It broke at the very end of last season
being short of finance's we opted to wait for this season.

Five days ago Hubby climbs up the roof fixes the part that is broken and we turn it on.
Our luck stays true and another two parts immediately break.
Its a real good thing I have a sense of humor about my life.

So we run to the store get new parts new pads and voila tonight we start fixing.
Yeah hubby makes big mistake and decides to hose out the swamp cooler without
asking me to put down towels first.
I was busy cutting, fitting and cleaning to notice what he was doing.

Yeah!

Sense of humor remember?

No?

Me either!

LOL I lost it when I walked up my porch into a mud splattered home.
I had to wash, scrub, and then wash and scrub the kids who of course had to help as well
AHHHHHH!!!

This picture is from earlier this morning
Little man does not like cold things
he does like Popsicle's after they are melted
being a very smart boy he  problem solves.
Hence the straw - he is drinking his melted Popsicle.

Funny Twists with Children

So this morning my kids won't stop picking on each other.

In a mother moment I told both of my children

"Mama's got a hair brush and I am not afraid to use it!"

My kids understand that this means I am going to chase them around the house fake paddle them and then tell them again to leave each other alone.

So my daughter caught up in the excitement of the moment yells out

"Mama's got a hair brush and she's not afraid to lose it!"

Mint! How I love Mint!

I borrowed this picture from the web as my mint plants well to see what they look like scroll down farther.
For now we are going to concentrate on MINT!
And of course what to do once you have nice healthy plants.

Menu plan

Minty-watermelon cucumber salad
Zesty herbed lamb chops
grilled fruit skewers with chocolate syrup

(all recipes from my healthy cooking magazine)

I believe I mentioned in a recent post of mine how hard it is to grow mint from seeds right?
Yeah this is after a months effort.

My poor things...

For me to handle the cucumber salad I have to first freeze the cucumber since I am highly allergic to a protein in the food.
This is annoying to be sure but it's easily broken down by freezeing, cooking, drying or pickling.
I can have it any way but fresh - yup sucks.

These recipes are very easy to find online so I will only post my favorite

Zesty Herbed Lamb Chops

1/2 c fresh mint leaves
1/4 c minced fresh oregano
1/4 c fresh parsley sprigs with the stems removed
1/4 c lemon juice
3 Tbls water
6 garlic cloves
1 Tbls olive oil
1/4 tsp salt
8 lamb chops (two per person)
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1 Tbls olive oil

In a food processor combine the all ingredients until the lamb chops (obviously).
Set aside half the sauce.
Brush 1/2 sauce over chops sprinkle with the salt and pepper.
In a large skillet (or grill) cook chops in oil over medium heat for 7-10 minutes on both sides of the meat.
Serve with the remaining mint sauce.

Great accompaniment for this dish is a mint cuscous.
Also taking a friends advice I bought the Hungry Girl cook book 200 recipes under 200 calories.
This was a major disappointment.
NOTHING is fresh!
This book will be shelved until the dead of winter.

Musing from the weirdness of my mind...

So  I have two interesting things on my mind lately.

First off I read somewhere that the US government had written laws concerning extraterrestrial aliens. I love researching strange and unusual things so this was a must.

Snopes of course was the final word on the matter. It seems this was for NASA personel in the unlikely event that they met or encountered beings from another world.

What drew my attention though was the end of the page on the subject and I quote

"The extraterrestrial law was removed from the CFR in 1991, NASA having determined that it had "served its purpose" and was "no longer in keeping with the current policy," and is no longer in force.

This begs the following questions

1. How did it serve its purpose - really I want details

2. WHAT is the NEW Policy?

I researched farther and found nothing (ominous noise plays in the back ground) now I am wondering.

My second muse is on city laws

SLC, UT has recently changed its laws (or are trying to they still have to be approved by Legislature)
concerning parking tickets as well as other misc outstanding city fines.

I think some of what they propose is going a bit overboard - wage garnishments, publishing debtors names in the papers, and jail time might just be a bit too much.

However the other items they propose I don't understand why they didn't put that into effect years ago.
Mainly rejection of vehicle registration and drivers license renewals.

If you have parking tickets, moving violations or any form of  car related misdemeanors that have not been paid then why are we letting you drive still?

Seriously get off my road!

Update on weightloss

First off this is not my art work, its my Sisters. Second this is not why I am posting I am just in love with it.
The first link it to buy, the second link is to follow her art blog - she posts at least one piece of art a week.

Second I am finally down to 198!!! Oh yeah! Down 13 pds in three months! So I am the turtle in the weight race my hubby has lost 65 pds, my sister a ton, even my best friend has me beat. However, I am still losing - this alone is enough to make me happy.

I am under 200 pds! Yeah! For making my first goal. I am still going down, Yeah! For making my second goal and I really am feeling better about myself.

It's raining right now or I would be giving you an update on my tiny garden as it is right now we are still trying to fix the front and finish planting the flowers. My tomato is still living and growing, my strawberries go from looking amazing to wilty not sure if they are going to make it or they are just moody like I am. My sugar snap peas and onions are taking over. While my mint seeds are taking their sweet time to get started.

Mint is not easy to start from seed, it really does need lots and lots of TLC, once they get going though almost nothing in this world can kill it.

I love mint, I put it in salad, with fruit, on meat and of course in tea!
